  1. Creamy Fingers

    October 24, 2008 by superlative

I enjoyed Creamy Fingers muchly last night, although today I feel AWFUL. Really, really awful to the point where I thought I was going to pass out on the bus on the way to work (see previous post). I’m feeling a little better now though, good old ready salted hula hoops, and I’ll hopefully be alright after lunch.

So anyway, as suspected Creamy Fingers was similar to Boogaloo in lots of ways. It was back at the Ghetto, they played good pop-type music (I think, memory is hazy, I know I danced lots though), Stu did a song and then Le Gateau Chocolat did a song, and then they played a game. The key difference was the game involved cream cakes. Stu also gave out filthy badges, which was nice, he didn’t do that very often at Dynamite Boogaloo. Don’t ask me what songs they sang during cabaret, I haven’t got a clue now. I’m also a bit hazy on the terms of the game, I think it involved eating two cakes each time you got an answer right. Or wrong. Or both.

The drinks were very, very cheap, which is why I’m not feeling so hot today. It was only £1.50 for a vodka and whatever, and you could get these shot things for 50p, so Chris was very pleased when he came tottering back from the bar with six drinks for six pounds. The shots were quite vile, they tasted like undiluted orange squash with a kick. Oh yes, and it was free to get in before 11, which was good.

I was expecting it to be rammed, and it wasn’t, which I found surprising for a launch. It was decently full though mostly, with enough people dancing, although it was noticeable during cabaret that the audience weren’t that loud due to lower numbers. I hope it does OK, I do need a Boogaloo replacement. Doing it fortnightly might work because you can’t think “oh I’ll just go next week instead”, so it might help make us get up and get out intstead of being lethargic and staying in.

    Here are some photos:

    Stu feeds the starving masses

Cabaret time: a girl called something like Sam who frequently inveigles herself into cabaret VS a cute boy from Birmingham (how unfortunate for him)

Le Gateau Chocolat astounds with another sartorial triumph

The cute boy ended up winning so deserves another picture

And I’m still not sure about my new hair. I’m trying to grow it, but think it looks a bit rubbish. SOMEONE had exceptionally nice hair last night, which makes mine look even worse

  2. Sleepy day

    May 16, 2008 by superlative

We went to Boogaloo last night so I am a tired boy at work today. I was meant to swim this morning, but I woke up at 6.30am and thought no that’s clearly not going to happen so went back to sleep for another hour. Never mind though, I can try to make Tuesdays my regularly swimming day and then if we don’t go to Boogaloo I’ll go on Fridays as well.

Boogaloo was quite good, but it was really quiet. I hope their numbers aren’t dropping off because it’s at Candy Bar or anything. Hopefully it’ll just be because the students have got dissertations and exams and things just now, so they’re not going out as much. I like the way they deal with it there when it’s quiet though, they just brazen it out and say things like “good evening everyone – yes, all five of you”. It was better when it was at Audio, I think it was a nicer venue, although I do like the basement-vibe of the Candy Bar that reminds me of the good old days when it was at the Joint.

Due to low numbers they played whole-audience Boogaloo Pictionary last night rather than a normal cabaret game, which was good actually because I won a t-shirt and Chris won a t-shirt and a miniature handbag! Mine was for guessing ‘piss flaps’, I think Chris might have guessed ‘sperm’ (nice), and I can’t remember what his other one was. Bumhole maybe. Anyway, the t-shirts are Ting Tings ones, a band who I have vaguely heard of and whose single they were promoting. It’s quite nice really, I might even wear it from time to time.

It’s now 12.35 and I’m trying to put off eating my lunch for a bit… I need the energy in order to stay awake, but the later I have lunch the shorter the afternoon is. I feel it is highly likely that I’ll be slumped asleep on my desk by 3.30 at this rate…

  3. The Proof…

    December 13, 2007 by superlative

… were actually really good! But oh my god I am so tired now, I don’t know quite how I made it in to work.

They sang about six songs, stuff like My Girl and Valerie and some others, and had surprisingly good voices. It wasn’t packed in there, enough people for it not to be too shameful, but it was much busier when it was Eton Road. One of them, the best-looking one with the shaved head, seemed to be obsessed with having his microphone turned up. He asked about four times until his was clearly much louder than everyone else’s, which made him look a bit self-centred!

In the end I only got about 3 hours sleep, and now I’m really feeling rough. I don’t know how I’m supposed to be going out for another Christmas meal with drinking and dancing tonight. Actually, yes I do know. The plan is that I’ll try to leave work early today, I’ll have a nice sleep, and then I will have limited alcohol intake this evening as I’ll clearly still be recovering from yesterday. Hopefully I’ll be able to make it in tomorrow in not too bad a state. My poor liver must hate me.
